Enter your current GPA and credits, a goal, and the credits you have left.
How it works
Each grade is worth quality points: A is 4.0, A- is 3.7, B+ is 3.3, B is 3.0, B- is 2.7, C+ is 2.3, C is 2.0, C- is 1.7, D+ is 1.3, D is 1.0 and F is 0. Multiply the points by the class's credits, add them up, and divide by the total credits.
For the cumulative GPA, your existing GPA is weighted by your existing credits and blended with this semester. The goal section runs the same formula backwards to find the average you need over the credits you have left.
This is the standard CUNY scale. A few colleges use extra grades such as D-, and every college sets its own rules for repeated courses and pass/fail, so confirm in your college's catalog or CUNYfirst before you rely on an exact number.
Questions
- How do I calculate my GPA at CUNY?
- Multiply each class's grade points (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, and so on) by its credits, add the results, and divide by the total credits. This calculator does that as you pick grades.
- Does an A+ count more than an A at CUNY?
- No. On the standard CUNY scale both an A+ and an A are worth 4.0 quality points.
- How do I raise my cumulative GPA?
- The more credits you already have, the less one semester moves it. Use the goal section to see the exact average you need over your remaining credits, and whether the goal is still reachable.
- Does this show my official GPA?
- No. Your official GPA is the one in CUNYfirst. Repeated courses, withdrawals and college-specific rules can change it, so treat this as a planning tool.
- Is my information saved?
- No. Everything is calculated in your browser and nothing is sent to or stored on our servers.
