About this course
3 hours lecture; 3 creditsComposition and analysis of 2- and 3-part counterpoint in the eighteenth-century style. Students will compose short contrapuntal exercises in two and three voices leading to a chorale prelude, a 2-part invention and 3-part fugue. Analyses and discussions of contrapuntal techniques, formal designs, and stylistic attributes will inform creative work.Prerequisite or Corequisite: Music 3236; or permission of the director.
