PREREQ OF MUSC. 3235 AND MUSC. 3212 AND EITHER MUSC. 3221 OR MUSC. 3222 ALL WITH A GRADE OF C OR HIGHER AND COREQ OF MUSC. 3212 AND MUSC. 3222 OR MUSC. 3223 ALL WITH A GRADE OF C OR HIGHER.

About this course

2 hours lecture, 2 hours practicum; 3 credits Exploration of music of the Romantic era through analysis of relevant works and compositional exercises. Topics include advanced modulations, mode mixture, Neapolitan and augmented-sixth chords, common-tone diminished chords, and extended tonality. C grade or better required to progress to Music 3237. May be retaken only once if not passed the first time. Prerequisites: Music 3235 (or 7.2, 23.2, or 3232) with a C or better; and Music 3212 and either 3221 or 3222; or a placement examination. Corequisites: Music 3212 and 3222 or 3223.
