Literature from the colonial period through the Harlem Renaissance.Slave narratives, rhetoric of abolition, formal and vernacular aesthetics.Such writers as Phillis Wheatley, David Walker, Frederick Douglass,Harriet Jacobs, Booker T. Washington, Paul L. Dunbar, Charles W.Chesnutt, James Weldon Johnson, W.E.B. Du Bois, Countee Cullen,Jean Toomer, Claude McKay, Sterling Brown, Zora Neale Hurston,Langston Hughes. This course is the same as Africana Studies 3220.Prerequisite: one of the following: English 1010 [1] or 1.7.
