About this course
3 hours; 3 credits Italian architecture, sculpture, and painting of the late sixteenth century and seventeenth century assessed in relation to the counter-Reformation, a resurgent Catholic Church, and the taste of the courts of France and Spain. Major artists: Caravaggio, the Carracci, Bernini, Borromini, Poussin, and Velasquez. (Not open to students who have completed Art 13.1.) Prerequisite: Art 1050 [1.3] or Core Studies 2.1 or Core Curriculum 1120 [1.2] or Art 1010.
