About this course

This course explores Americans in the Middle East and Middle Easterners in the U.S. in the context of modern American imperialism. Topics will include American missionaries and military incursions in the Middle East; race and Middle Eastern migrants in the U.S.; the economics and politics of oil; the war on Iran; U.S. military action in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria; the U.S. and the Arab-Israeli conflict; and American Jews and Israel.
