About this course

The Ottoman Empire ruled diverse lands on three continents for over six centuries and became a Mediterranean powerhouse in the 1500s. This course follows merchants, corsairs, slaves, landowners, statesmen, commodities, and diseases, and examines how Ottoman expansion into and rule in the Eastern Mediterranean shaped law, society, and governance through the end of empire.
