30 hours plus conference; 3 credits The history of the American presidency from the constitutional era until the present day. Topics include: the constitutional debates over the executive; the establishment and consolidation of the office; the records of important presidents, such as Washington, Lincoln, and the Progressive Era presidents; FDR and the expansion of the executive branch bureaucracy; the modern presidency and security matters, the law, foreign affairs, and public opinion.
