About this course
This is an intensive introductory course in the use of analytical and statistical methods in higher education research. It is primarily a quantitative course which will include weekly problem sets and frequent computer work. By the end of the course, you will know how to propose a reasonable hypothesis, analyze data using Microsoft Excel, run appropriate tests, and reach significant conclusions. Specific analytical skills presented in the course will include basic descriptive statistics, z and t testing, analysis of variance, use of contingency tables (crosstabs), use of statistical controls, chi-square testing, simple and multiple linear regression, and some work with dummy variables, residuals and outliers.
