About this course

This course, which is a one-semester biology course for science and non-science majors, fulfills the Flexible Common Core: Scientific World General Education requirement. It covers societal and scientific perceptions of race, how these perceptions arise, and their ramifications on human health. This course examines factors that impact racialized health disparities with a particular focus on moderntechnologies. This includes artificial intelligence, which is a field that combines computer science and extensive datasets to enable large-scale problem-solving. Computational and digital literacies (i.e., skills in thinking like a computer scientist and competency in using online resources, respectively) are developed throughout this course in examining intersections between the social construct of race, biology, and technology. Prior knowledge of the basic foundations of biology is expected. Pre-requisite: BIO 101, Introduction to Biology.
