About this course
In this introductory doctoral course, EdD students explore the process of knowledge building broadly as well as within the context of higher education administration. As is done in each of the EdD research sequence courses, students in this course both study the research process and apply their new knowledge and research skills to their own work as practitioner-scholars in training. Here students learn about different ways of knowing and research paradigms in relationship to the ethical search for knowledge. Simultaneously, students reflect on their own worldview and positionality as practitioner-scholars. They also develop the skills to be critical consumers of research, as they hone their ability to effectively apply expert knowledge to problems of practice in higher education. Additionally, students learn about the role of theory in educational research and begin to explore theoretical frameworks related to their own research interests. By the end of the course, EdD students will have delineated a problem of practice and identified a study population for their Dissertation in Practice.
