About this course
The department will loan guitars to students in need. Please contact the instructor to reserve a departmental instrument for use in the classroom during classes and office hours. Basic music theory and its application in performance on the guitar. Musical notation, key signatures, time signatures and meters for playing simple melodies in the folk, rock, popular and classical styles. Chord construction, strumming techniques and simple finger-picking skills, basic improvisation and ensemble playing.
