About this course
In this course students will read major French authors of the nineteenth century to analyze the relationship between the individual and a society undergoing critical changes in the wake of political revolutions. Special attention will be given to how individual and collective identities such as class, sex, and race are being defined and reshaped in an age that proclaims Libert�, �galit�, fraternit�. Readings are in French; discussion and written work in English or French.
