Introduction to Literature · 3 credits · Summer 2027
Requirements
Prerequisite: ENG 101, ENG 100.5 or ENG 100.7
About this course
This is a course that builds upon skills introduced in English 101, English 100.5 or English 100.7. In this course, students develop critical reading, critical thinking, independent research, and writing skills throughout the study of various types of literature. Students will acquire basic knowledge necessary for the analysis of texts, gain proficiency in library and internet research, and hone their skills as readers and writers. Assignments move from close readings of literary texts in a variety of genres and analyses that introduce literary terms in broader contexts to a documented, thesis-driven research paper. By the conclusion of English 201, students will be prepared for the analytical and research-based writing required in upper-level courses across the curriculum.
