About this course

This is an experiential course that bridges investment theory and professional practice. Students are introduced to the analytical foundations of portfolio management ? from principles of modern portfolio theory and asset allocation to risk measurement, performance attribution, and investment policy ? while simultaneously applying those skills through active participation in the CCNY Student-Managed Investment Fund (SMIF). The SMIF is a sleeve of CCNY's endowment fund allocated by the Investment Company of its Board of Trustees specifically for this educational purpose. Student analysts will bear genuine fiduciary responsibility for real assets under management, making all portfolio decisions (from security selection to rebalancing to security sales) subject to the oversight of CCNY's endowment fund Investment Committee. Representatives of the Investment Committee, along with supervising faculty, serve as mentors and evaluators throughout the semester, and student analysts will report the progress to the Committee at midterm and at year-end. Guest speakers drawn from the investment management, endowment, and financial services industries will enrich every module. Practitioner topics may include institutional asset allocation, security selection and portfolio construction, ESG integration, portfolio and investment communication, and career pathways in investment management.

Seat status as of Oct 3, 5:24 AM ET. Seats can change between refreshes.
