About this course
Cross-cultural encounters, as told through the experience and eyes of travelers and the responses of their local hosts, across historical periods. Students will read and write about selections from first-hand accounts of travelers and their counterparts?such as, travelogues, diaries, memoirs and letters?as well as complementary secondary sources to critically reconstruct from different perspectives cross-cultural interactions and exchanges from the past. Periodization and topics may change with the semester and instructor.
