About this course

The purpose of this course is to help students acquire the skills for policy-oriented quantitative research, using current debates about the New York economy as a laboratory. It is intended to give students hands-on practice in the sort of quantitative work used in policy debates. The course is open-ended and collaborative; the hope is that, over the course of the semester, students will work together to produce the kind of rigorous but accessible research that is needed by New York advocacy and policy organizations, as well as elected officials and the general public.
