About this course
This course covers the technology of the book from codex manuscript to electronic format, as well as the economic, intellectual, and social consequences of these technologies. The class begins with an introduction to Medieval and Renaissance manuscripts that in many ways formed the models for both incunabula and later early modern printed books. The class follows the development of the book from the hand press to machine printing, and in turn from printing to electronic formats.
