About this course
A study of the major political philosophers of the modern Western world, from the sixteenth century to the present, including Hobbes, Locke, Rousseau, Hegel, Marx, Bentham, J.S. Mill, and Freud. Attention is devoted to the historical and institutional environments within which these theorists worked and the understanding they provide of the problems of contemporary politics.
