About this course

This course focuses on the family from a developmental and clinical perspective. The family system is explored from several theoretical models. Topics include the family as a system, stages of family life, ethnic and cultural variations, in family life; and transitional and environmental challenges that affect the family system related to adoption, divorce, remarriage, illness, death of family members, family violence, and drug and alcohol abuse. Short stories and films will be used to illustrate major points of discussion. This course is not open to students who have taken Psychology of the Family as a special topics course (PSY 4040).
