About this course
Designed to introduce students to the field of biotechnology and to the applications and the impact of modern biotechnology on society. The history of biotechnology and the biotech discoveries in DNA science that influence the field today will be presented. Basic concepts of DNA, the Central Dogma, and molecular genetics will be introduced as a foundation to understand the techniques of modern biotechnology. The use of biotechnology in areas, such as medicine, agriculture, bioremediation, food processing, forensics, and energy production will be presented. Students will examine the ethical, legal, and social implications of selected topics in biotechnology.
