This course explores the shifting relationships among and within human communities as technology and innovation, the search for resources, burgeoning belief systems, and human curiosity combined to connect more and more people across the globe. Topics include, but are not limited to: the economy and consumerism; imperialism and military power; the environment, science, and technological change; religion and philosophy; politics and mass communications; social relations and identity; and the arts and popular culture. How much of the past do we see in the present? Specific content may vary by instructor.
