About this course
This course introduces students to the principles and practices of public librarianship, emphasizing the unique role public libraries play in their communities. Students explore the history, governance, and funding structures of public libraries, as well as the challenges posed by political, fiscal, and societal trends. The course covers strategic planning, program development, and advocacy, with a focus on delivering services to diverse populations. Through examining community needs assessments and the implementation of targeted programs, students will be prepared to address and support the evolving landscape of public librarianship.
