Forecasting & Decision Making · 3 credits · Spring 2027
About this course
This course prepares students to make decisions about innovations in uncertain, complex environments. Successful innovations are rarely straightforward extensions of current offerings and current trends. Instead, they involve creatively altering and combining disparate pieces into something entirely new. In order to do this, innovators need to predict future needs, trends, and technologies and make choices accordingly. Students will begin by learning and utilizing best practices in prediction and forecasting in complex, uncertain environments. The course builds on those skills to teach ?futuring?, the process of envisioning future outcomes and making business decisions based on various aspects of a forecast. The course will be highly experiential, making ample use of prediction systems, allowing students to study, forecast, and apply a wide range of business, economic, and technological issues. The course augments and complements quantitative forecasting courses. Prerequisites: none.
