About this course

This course introduces students to the symphonic, operatic and chamber music literature of the Western canon from the Baroque to the contemporary period. The elements of music are examined in instrumental and vocal forms, including tempo, meter, rhythm, melodic and harmonic material and structure, tone color, and texture. Listening assignments and readings are required.
