This course examines how the economic, political, and cultural landscape of the United States was radically reshaped by broad population movements from the rural South to the urban North between the two world wars, and then from the urban Northeast and Midwest to the suburban Sunbelt after 1945. Topics include the Great Migration of African Americans and gentrification, among others.
