About this course
3 hours; 3 creditsThe art of the first half of the twentieth century, its precedents, and its political and cultural context. The rise of abstraction, the liberation of color, and the interest in the subconscious. Major artistic movements in Europe: Fauvism, Cubism, Futurism, Surrealism. Major artists: Picasso, Matisse, Mondrian, Kandinsky. (Not open to students who have completed Art 15.2.) Prerequisite: Art 1050 [1.3] or Core Studies 2.1 or Core Curriculum 1120 [1.2] or Art 1010.
